EverStart Marine Battery
EverStart marine batteries come in three kinds at Walmart: deep cycle batteries for trolling motors and RV house power, starting batteries for outboards, and a sealed Platinum AGM deep cycle. Sizes run from Group 24 to Group 29.

EverStart Marine Starting vs Deep Cycle Battery
They’re built differently because they do different jobs. The letters in the model name tell you which is which.
MS = marine starting
EverStart 24MS
Many thin plates give a big, short burst to crank an outboard or inboard. Not meant to run a trolling motor or lights for hours.
DC = deep cycle
EverStart 24DC, 27DC and 29DC
Thicker plates give steady power for trolling motors, fish finders, pumps and RV house loads, then take a full recharge.
Sealed AGM deep cycle
Platinum AGM 27M
Sealed and spill-proof, so it copes better with pounding waves and tight spaces. Walmart lists a 2-year free replacement on it.
One battery or two? Many anglers run a starting battery for the engine and a separate deep cycle for the trolling motor and electronics, so a long day on the water never leaves them unable to start.

EverStart Deep Cycle Battery Run Time
Reserve capacity is the minutes a battery can supply 25 amps before it’s flat. Multiply it by 25 and divide by 60 for a rough amp hour figure.
Deep cycle batteries last longest when you use about half their capacity before recharging. Pick your battery and your average draw to see what that means on the water.

Marine Battery Ratings Explained
MCA, marine cranking amps, is measured at 32°F. Because it’s tested warmer than CCA, the MCA figure is always higher for the same battery.
CCA, cold cranking amps, is measured at 0°F. Use it if your engine maker lists a CCA requirement or you launch in cold weather.
Reserve capacity is minutes at a 25 amp load before the battery drops to 10.5 volts. It’s the best quick guide to run time.
EverStart Marine Battery Care
- Recharge after every trip, even a short one
- Try not to run it below about 12.2 volts at rest, roughly half charged
- Use a charger made for wet places, like the waterproof EverStart Maxx BC4WE
- If it has removable caps, keep the plates covered with distilled water
- Strap it down in a battery box so it can’t slide or short
- Charge it fully before winter, then keep it on a maintainer or store it cool and dry
- In an RV, use the battery disconnect switch while it’s parked
EverStart Marine Battery FAQ
What is the EverStart marine battery warranty?
Walmart lists a 1-year free replacement on the 27DC and the 930 MCA 24MS, and 2 years on the Platinum AGM 27M. Check the listing for other sizes.
Which EverStart marine battery is best for a trolling motor?
A deep cycle one. The 27DC is a common pick. Choose the 29DC for longer days, or the Platinum AGM 27M if you want a sealed battery.
Can I use a car battery in my boat?
It’s not a good idea. Car batteries aren’t built for the vibration on the water or for being drained by electronics, and they wear out fast in that role.
Is the EverStart 29DC a Maxx battery?
Yes. Walmart sells the Group 29DC as the EverStart Maxx Marine and RV Deep Cycle. It has the most reserve capacity of the range at 200 minutes.
How long does it take to charge a marine battery?
Roughly the amp hours you used divided by the charger’s amps, plus about 20% for losses. Putting 35 Ah back with a 4 amp charger takes around 10 to 11 hours.
