EverStart Car Battery
EverStart car batteries come in four lines at Walmart: Value, Plus, Maxx and Platinum AGM. They’re all 12-volt batteries sold by BCI group size. What changes from line to line is cranking power, reserve capacity, battery type and how long the free replacement lasts.

Here’s how the lines stack up in three popular sizes. Maxx often matches the AGM on cold cranking amps. The AGM’s edge is its build and the longer warranty.

EverStart battery prices at Walmart
Prices rise with each step up: Value is the cheapest, then Plus, Maxx and Platinum AGM. Bigger group sizes cost more within a line, and Walmart adds a core fee that you get back when you return the old battery. Walmart changes prices often, so we link to each listing instead of printing them.
Which Line Fits You?
A quick way to decide without reading every spec.
Value
An older car, a mild climate, or a car you plan to sell soon. Lowest price, 1-year cover.
Plus
A daily driver on a budget. More reserve capacity than Value and twice the warranty.
Maxx
Trucks, SUVs, cold winters and cars with add-ons. The strongest flooded line, 3-year cover.
Platinum AGM
Start-stop cars, cars that came with AGM, and heavy electrical loads. 4-year cover.
How to Read a Car Battery Label
Four numbers tell you almost everything. You’ll find them on the top label of every EverStart battery.
Group size
A Battery Council International (BCI) code for the case size, terminal layout and post type. European H sizes have several names: an H6 is also an LN3 and a Group 48. An R or F after the number means the terminals are swapped. Size chart
Cold cranking amps (CCA)
The current a battery can deliver for 30 seconds at 0°F while staying above 7.2 volts. It’s the best single number for starting power in winter. Match your owner’s manual or go higher.
Reserve capacity (RC)
How many minutes a full battery can supply 25 amps at 80°F before it drops to 10.5 volts. Think of it as how long the car could keep running if the alternator quit.
Date and warranty
EverStart labels print the warranty, such as “3-Year Warranty Free Replacement.” The period starts on the day you buy, so keep the receipt. Warranty guide
Flooded or AGM?
Value, Plus and Maxx are flooded lead acid. Platinum AGM is an absorbent glass mat battery. The simple rule: replace like with like, or upgrade to AGM. Never go from AGM back to flooded.
| Flooded (Value, Plus, Maxx) | AGM (Platinum) | |
|---|---|---|
| Inside | Plates sit in liquid electrolyte | Electrolyte held in glass mats, sealed case |
| Spill-proof | No, keep it upright | Yes |
| Start-stop cars | Not suited | Built for it |
| Deep discharges | Wear it out faster | Handles them better |
| Charging | Standard charger setting | Use an AGM setting |
| Free replacement | 1 to 3 years | 4 years |
| Price | Lower | Higher |
EverStart Car Battery Lifespan
Most car batteries last three to five years. Where you live matters more than the brand. Heat speeds up the wear inside the battery, and cold weather is when that wear finally shows up as a no-start.
Short trips are the other big one. Starting the engine takes a lot out of the battery, and a ten-minute drive doesn’t put it all back. Add a dash cam or an alarm that draws power while parked and the battery spends its life half charged.
Make It Last Longer
- Take a longer drive at least once a week
- Use a maintainer if the car sits for weeks
- Keep the terminals clean and the clamps tight
- Make sure the hold-down is snug so the battery can’t bounce
- Have it tested before winter once it’s three years old
- Don’t leave lights or accessories on with the engine off
How to Replace an EverStart Car Battery
A typical swap takes 20 to 30 minutes with basic hand tools. Wear gloves and eye protection. Your owner’s manual has the details for your car.
- Turn everything offEngine off, key out, lights and accessories off. Note any radio code your car may ask for afterward.
- Negative off firstLoosen and remove the black (−) cable, then the red (+) cable. Keep tools from touching both posts at once.
- Lift out the old batteryRemove the hold-down and lift straight up. Car batteries are heavy, often 30 to 50 pounds.
- Clean the tray and clampsScrub off any crust with a wire brush and a baking soda and water mix, then dry everything.
- Positive on firstSet the new battery in the same direction, fit the hold-down, then connect red (+) and black (−) last.
- Finish upSome newer cars need the battery registered with a scan tool. Take the old one back to Walmart to get your core fee refunded.
Rather not do it yourself? Walmart Auto Care Centers install batteries. Call your local store first to check hours and whether they can do your vehicle.
What Owners Report by Line
From the BobIsTheOilGuy car forum. Life varies a lot with climate and driving.
Gets about 1.5 to 2 years from Value batteries and recommends Maxx for cars with lots of electronics.
A Value 24F lasted about 3 years in his Odyssey, and a Maxx in his Malibu was still strong at 4 years.
Three of his vehicles were still running EverStart Maxx batteries that were 8 to 11 years old.
EverStart Car Battery FAQ
Which EverStart car battery is best?
For most cars, Maxx gives the best mix of cranking power and warranty for the money. If your car has start-stop or came with an AGM battery, choose Platinum AGM.
What size EverStart battery does my car take?
Check the group size on your current battery or in the owner’s manual, then use our battery finder. Walmart’s “Check if this fits your vehicle” tool on each listing confirms the fit by year, make and model.
Can I put a higher CCA battery in my car?
Yes. The engine only draws what it needs, so extra CCA just means more margin on cold mornings. The group size still has to match.
Can I replace an AGM battery with a regular one?
It’s not a good idea. Cars that came with AGM, especially those with start-stop, are set up for it, and a flooded battery tends to wear out quickly there. Going from flooded to AGM is fine.
Do EverStart car batteries come charged?
Car batteries are sold filled and charged, but they lose some charge on the shelf. If a new battery reads below about 12.4 volts, top it up with a charger before you install it.
Is the EverStart car battery warranty the same at every Walmart?
The free replacement period is set by the line and printed on the listing and label. Claims are handled at Walmart stores with an Auto Care Center.
